Where and how are Lucy&Leo's fascinating wooden anti-gadget toys produced?

The history of the Lucy&Leo brand of wooden educational toys began in 2012. The brand's birthplace is Spain. The production is located in China, which is considered the "world factory" — top companies from all over the world manufacture their goods there.

Production

The production of Lucy&Leo fascinating toys is continuously monitored by highly qualified specialists — staff representatives of Lucy&Leo's European office are permanently present at the factory and carefully monitor the quality of each batch.

Employees from Russia, China, and European countries work at the factory. These are engineers, technologists, workers, designers, educational psychologists, and managers. Most of them have been with Lucy&Leo for many years.

We have our own designers working at the production facility. This allows us to quickly develop unique models that follow new market trends, in particular, new trends in the upbringing and development of children. In addition, the Lucy&Leo brand constantly collaborates with world-famous European designers. For example, Marisol Excorza from Spain has been working with Lucy&Leo for over 6 years.

As a rule, the concept of each toy is being shaped along with child psychologists. It is important for understanding how individual elements of toys will affect the development of certain skills.

Efficiency

Today the Lucy&Leo factory produces about 100,000 wooden educational toys per month. But this is not the limit. The output of new products has been continuously increasing due to the rapidly growing demand. We have plans to double production by 2022.

Production is almost fully automated, which minimizes human error. For eight years, the delivery schedule of products has never been compromised due to factory failures.

Equipment in the factory where Lucy&Leo toys are being produced requires minimal human intervention. Details of toys are processed on modern computer numerical control (CNC) machines.

With specialized software for preparing 3D models, design ideas are turned into real products. It is enough to just enter parameters of a new toy and supply work pieces — a machine will do the rest by itself, without delays or errors.

Due to almost full automation of the processes, parts are processed with pinpoint precision. Firstly, it minimizes the loss of raw materials. And, secondly, it allows to reduce the production cost by reducing the cost of materials — wood, plastic, and paint.

Toy quality

The quality and safety of all Lucy&Leo anti-gadgets are confirmed by certificates of compliance with the European Union Directive 2009/48/EC “On the safety of toys.”

Each toy is mandatorily assessed for the presence of mechanical, chemical, physical, and electrical sources of danger. Only if the toy meets all the strictest requirements and safety standards established in the EU countries, it is cleared for sale.

Lucy&Leo's fascinating toys use only natural solid wood — natural beechwood and natural rubberwood (Hevea). No chipboards that may contain hazardous formaldehyde are used. A small part of Lucy&Leo toys is made from plywood, but this does not affect the quality and safety of products.

The glue in plywood is NOT made from toxic formaldehyde resins (which are used in ordinary chipboards), but contains natural paraffin and lignin. These substances are contained in natural wood and are absolutely harmless to health. At the same time, MDF and chipboards are often used in the production of cheap toys — but NEVER in the production of Lucy&Leo fascinating toys!

The Lucy&Leo brand is committed to product safety and environmental sustainability. The German paints that Lucy&Leo toys are coated with are exclusively water-based. That is why Lucy&Leo toys do not have a "chemical" smell and only smell like natural wood.

Natural rubberwood and natural beechwood

Natural rubberwood and natural beechwood are used in the production, for the most part. These materials are durable, well sanded to a smooth state, have a pleasant smell and a uniform texture. And most importantly, they are absolutely safe for children — a kid will not get hurt or have a splinter. Many other types of wood, such as pine or birch, are prickly and uneven in structure. This may result in having splinters; in addition, toys made from these materials are prone to having chips and dents.

German water-based paint

Water-based paint of high quality, made in Germany according to German technology, is used. Such paint is absolutely safe for a child — you don’t have to worry if your kid suddenly licks the toy or puts it in the mouth. In addition, it is highly durable and does not smell at all. As already mentioned, Lucy&Leo’s fascinating toys do not have a chemical smell at all, only a scent of natural wood!

Thermal transfer of pictures

This technology allows us to convey the clarity of an image, the brightness of colors, and a variety of shades. When there is a small number of shades, silk-screen printing is used. This makes it possible to apply millions of different shades to a toy! The image is clear, juicy, and rich. Such an effect is almost impossible to achieve using traditional painting technologies (dipping, spraying and silk-screening). Moreover, an image is applied on the first attempt, in one thin layer, which makes it possible to speed up the drying of paint.

Premium packaging

Embossed cardboard is used for packaging; for some toys, linen bags with drawstrings are made. Great for gifting!

Why are we doing all this? Our mission

Why are we doing all this? Our mission

We live in a world with such problems as global warming, climate change, and resource depletion. With the current level of human development and technology, these problems cannot be solved. But our future generation will be able to solve these problems if we, adults, begin to contribute to the children's education now. Until very recently, few people knew about educational toys; their benefits were underestimated. But today they are gaining in popularity, and this is also due to our contribution. We will continue to do this, believing that with these simple toys we will be able to change our future generation and therefore the future itself.
